PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity, caring for more than 350,000 pet patients belonging to people in need. PDSA provides free veterinary treatment to sick and injured animals and promotes responsible pet ownership to ensure a healthy life for all our pets.

- PDSA was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin CBE, an animal welfare pioneer.
- This year PDSA will provide 1.8 million free treatments to sick and injured pets and more than 200,000 preventive treatments.
- PDSA operates 47 PetAid hospitals across the UK and works with over 340 private veterinary practices.
- The charity’s PetAid services will cost £50 million to run this year and PDSA receives no government and lottery funding.
- Gifts in wills make a huge difference to the work of the charity; in fact, two out of every three treatments for sick and injured pets is funded through a supporter leaving a gift in their will.
- 4,800 volunteers donate their valuable skills and time to PDSA, which saved the charity £10.3 million in employment costs in 2008.
- The majority of volunteers help in PDSA’s network of 178 retail shops across the UK.
- Other ways to support the charity include donating shares, payroll giving, and the opportunity for benefactors to have a PetAid hospital named after them.
- PDSA is the largest private employer of fully qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in Europe.
